Ingredients
Scale
Base Ingredients
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
Flavorings
- 1 3.4 ounce box Butterscotch Instant Pudding
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp ginger paste
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
Beverage
- 1 2-liter cream soda
Optional Toppings
- Whipped cream or coconut whipped cream
- Butterscotch or caramel sauce
Instructions
- Combine base ingredients: In a large microwavable bowl, mix 3 cups whole milk, 1/4 cup unsalted butter, and 1/4 cup packed brown sugar. Whisk until combined.
- Heat the mixture: Microwave the mixture for 3 minutes. Then whisk well until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add cream soda and pudding: Whisk in half (1 liter) of the cream soda, then add the entire box of butterscotch instant pudding mix.
- Add flavorings: Stir in 1 tbsp vanilla extract, 1/4 tsp ginger paste, and 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper. Whisk to combine thoroughly.
- Incorporate remaining cream soda: Pour in the rest of the cream soda bottle and stir gently.
- Warm and maintain temperature: Heat the hot butterbeer gently on the stovetop or microwave, or pour into a crockpot set to high and then lowered to warm to keep a consistent temperature. Stir occasionally to prevent separation.
- Serve and garnish: Optionally, top each cup with whipped cream and drizzle with butterscotch or caramel sauce for extra indulgence.
Notes
- If the drink is too thick, add 1 cup of whole milk and stir to loosen the consistency.
- The ginger and cayenne add warm spice; keep mild as in the recipe or increase both to 1/2 teaspoon each for a spicier kick.
- Enhance flavor by sprinkling cinnamon and nutmeg on top for a cozy finish.
- Pair with Harry Potter-themed treats such as Chocolate Frogs or Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans for a complete magical experience.
- Store leftover hot butterbeer covered in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.
- Reheat gently on low heat on the stovetop, stirring occasionally to preserve texture and flavor.
- Freezing is not recommended because carbonation and dairy components do not freeze or thaw well.
- For convenience, prepare the base (milk, butter, sugar, pudding, and flavorings) a day ahead and refrigerate. Add cream soda when ready to serve.
