Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 4 hot dogs
- 2 slices American cheese
- 1 package crescent roll triangle dough
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
Butter Mixture
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
For Serving
- Ketchup, mustard, and Maldon salt as preferred dipping sauces
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and line a medium baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
- Prepare Dough Rectangles: Carefully remove the crescent roll dough from the package without separating the triangles. Gently pull the dough into four rectangles by pinching the middle of the triangles together to keep them intact.
- Cut Dough Strips: Use a pizza cutter to slice each rectangle into three long strips about 3/4-inch by 4-inches, for a total of twelve strips.
- Prepare Hot Dogs and Cheese: Cut each of the 4 hot dogs into thirds, yielding twelve pieces. Cut each slice of cheese in half and then into thirds, resulting in six small pieces total.
- Assemble Pigs in a Blanket: Optionally brush each dough strip lightly with Dijon mustard. Place one piece of cheese at the bottom of each dough strip, top it with one piece of hot dog, then roll up tightly. Place each rolled pig in a blanket on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and the cheese has melted.
- Prepare Butter Mixture: While baking, melt the salted butter in a small saucepan. Stir in garlic powder and onion powder until well combined.
- Brush and Season: Remove the pigs in a blanket from the oven, brush generously with the garlic-onion butter mixture, and sprinkle with Maldon sea salt.
- Serve: Serve warm with ketchup, mustard, and other preferred dipping sauces for a flavorful and fun snack or appetizer.
Notes
- For a spicy twist, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the butter mixture.
- Use any cheese variety like cheddar or pepper jack for different flavors.
- If crescent roll dough is unavailable, puff pastry sheets can be used as a substitute.
- Ensure dough thickness is even to guarantee even baking and golden color.
- Brush dough with Dijon mustard sparingly to avoid overpowering flavors but add a nice tang.
- Serve immediately for best texture; leftovers can be reheated in the oven to retain crispiness.
