Description

This Air Fryer Fajitas recipe offers a quick and flavorful way to enjoy classic fajitas with tender skirt steak, vibrant bell peppers, and onions, all perfectly cooked in an air fryer for a healthy and delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound skirt steak

Vegetables

  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red onion

Seasonings & Oil

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare Steak: Slice the skirt steak into thin strips, cutting against the grain to ensure tenderness, then place the slices in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Slice Vegetables: Cut the red and green bell peppers and the red onion into thin strips and add them to the bowl with the steak.
  3. Add Oil: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of oil over the steak and vegetable mixture for even cooking and flavor.
  4. Mix Seasonings: In a small bowl, combine chili powder, cumin, sugar, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper, stirring well to blend the spices.
  5. Coat Mixture: Sprinkle the spice blend over the steak and vegetables then stir thoroughly to coat everything evenly with the seasoning.
  6. Air Fry: Lightly oil the air fryer basket and place the steak and vegetable mixture inside. Cook at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes, shaking the basket gently every 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  7. Serve: Remove from the air fryer and serve hot with warm tortillas and your favorite fajita toppings such as sour cream, guacamole, or salsa.

Notes

  • Flank steak or sirloin steak can be substituted for skirt steak if preferred or easier to find.
  • To make this recipe keto friendly, omit the sugar or replace it with a keto-approved sweetener, and consider serving the fajitas over a salad instead of tortillas.
  • Shaking the air fryer basket during cooking helps prevent sticking and promotes even cooking.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper amount to taste for desired spiciness.
  • Use oil with a high smoke point like avocado oil or canola oil for best results in the air fryer.
